Welcome to Double Tree by Hilton Jakarta - Diponegoro, a brand new 5 star (international) hotel, that quite recently opened in the heart of the Big Durian, to be exact in May 2014. To differentiate itself from the more serious Hilton Hotels, Double Tree lives by its 'Warm, Comfortable & Smart' personality, one of the ways is by giving out the signature Double Tree Chocolate Chip Cookie as an expression to 'welcome' you.
After more than 2 months in operation, and things have stabilized and more or less settled, I had a chance to visit Double Tree for the first time for the Iftar buffet at its OPEN} Restaurant. Hmm, a new addition to Jakarta's collection of hotel buffet restaurants. I was naturally curious about how OPEN} Restaurant fare compared to the other hotel buffets.
OPEN} Restaurant, to put it succinctly, is the all day dining restaurant, that serves daily breakfast buffet to the guests staying at Double Tree, as well as lunch and dinner. Located 1 floor down from the main lobby, OPEN} Restaurant is just next to the swimming pool, which is visible through the floor-to-ceiling windows. If you fancy soaking in the open air, you could also opt to sit at the al fresco tables, on the outdoor deck. It is a casual dining scene with various open kitchens and live cooking stations, from where you could request for made-to-order dishes, cooked the way you like it. Just like what I did, at the noodles station, where I requested for fried rice vermicelli noodles, cooked like the traditional Indonesian street food-style.

Besides the various live cooking stations, I was told that the signature dish here is the Rendang Pizza. It is an interesting fusion from the best of both Indonesian & Italian cuisines. Just head to the western station and request for a serving of Rendang Pizza, from the chef, who would immediately knead the dough, sprinkle the toppings and toss it into the stone fire oven. The result? A pan of crispy thin Italian pizza with rendang topping is ready for you to enjoy! Another signature is the Double Tree Chocolate Chips Cookie Cheesecake, which is basically: a (new york style) cheesecake, topped with Double Tree Signature chocolate chip crumbs. The cake is available at the dessert station.

Variety wise, OPEN} Restaurant covered all the basics well, Indonesia, Western, Chinese, fresh seafood, appetizers, noodles, satay, dessert stations, etc. I'll be honest with you, the dishes are not what you cannot find from any other hotel buffets. Considering the age of the property, maintaining such a big F&B operation at the current quality, is already a remarkable achievement. The staff and chefs are all very keen and attentive to the customers, so do not hesitate to express what you fancy eating (but don't go overboard ok...like askng for gold dusted dessert, etc LOL!). So when are you going to go and try OPEN} Restaurant already? :)
