New: Yummy Umami Bowl at Uma-Bo

How would you like a warm bowl or fragrant rice topped with chunks of succulent slow-cooked short ribs, roasted eggplants, creamed corn, poached eggs and drizzled with generous crispy shallots, sauces and fresh greens? Did I just hear resounding YES??

The amazing bowl above, has a name, by the way and it's called 'Ribs Me Up' Umami Bowl, which is available at Uma-Bo, a new modest restaurant tucked on the busy Jalan Wijaya. Uma-Bo belongs to the enterprising boys from G48 (Good For Eats). Uma-Bo actually started as one of the main courses offered in their weekend brunch menu, 'Umami Bowl', which was well-liked by their customers.

As if the name alone is not inviting enough, one of the customers' favourite bowls, Ribs Me Up looks exactly like this:

Ribs Me Up Uma-Bo IDR 60,000
The menu is divided to 6: Uma-Bo (rice bowls), Uma Burger, Uma-Munch (sandwiches), Uma-Sides, Uma-Sweets (dessert) and Uma-Chug (drinks). Each one features unique twists of its own. Uma-Bo's signatures are the bowls (self-explanatory), currently there are 6 choices (5 rice & 1 spaghetti), each with very interesting combos. I am looking forward to trying the Curry Muncha (Penang beef curry with roast pumpkin) and the Kometric (fried rice with corned beef bars, scrambled egg, chili jam and garlic chips).

Other than the rice, you there's also burger 'Uma-Burger' and sandwich 'Uma-Munch', also with interesting twists, like the Crunchy Burger (cornflakes chicken, honey mustard, tomato and sambal) and the Soul Dogs (sloppy joe, chipotle mayo, corn relish and crunchies). There are some Sides to accompany the carb-packed feast, like the chicken wings, salad, fries. I had the Chili Cheese Fries and the beef con carne topping with real chili chunks really gave a fierce kick to the palate.

The Home-made Custard (which is basically ice cream) changes flavours each month and when I visited, flavour of the month was Salted Caramel. The other dessert I tried was the SCP (chili chocolate covered rice rice krispies). If you don't mind the calories, I'd suggest you to try the Krack Bar (deep fried chocolate bar) or the Fried Banana Split instead.

Uma-Bo is located at Jalan Wijaya 1, the same stretch as Pand'Or at Wijaya, but further down the road, towards Woltermonginsidi area. It'll be on the left side of the street. This is the kind of place to visit when you're just tired of overly dressed up dishes and places, that serves yummy comfort food in an unpretentious place.
