I've been contemplating for sometime on whether or not I should share this spot with you. But I won't be doing it justice if I keep this little great place to myself. So...I shall spill the
spaghetti laksa beans now.
Eight Cafe & Bar is located at Bukit Pasoh in Singapore, which is known for the rows of fine restaurants and classic looking buildings and conserved shophouses. The area is quite centrally located and is easily accessible by a cab or a car. Actually the nearest MRT station or bus stop is still within tolerable walking distance (my walking tolerance might be invalid for Indonesians). Eight Cafe & Bar occupies the entire first floor of a shophouse, which is shared with another business (an office on the second floor).
For lunch, usually there's the Daily Lunch Set, which offers different main courses daily and the price is inclusive a glass of soft drink or bottled tea. Priced at just SGD 9,80 onwards, this set is absolutely value for money kind of deal. It is apparent that Eight Cafe & Bar is a favourite among the office executives who packed the place at lunchtime.
The menu is not overly extensive, so it's easier to choose, although I still found it difficult to make up my mind from the so many interesting menu. There are western and eastern classics as well as other brilliant fusion dishes such as the Exotic Seafood Laksa Pasta, which marries the al dente spaghetti noodles with the rich Nyonya laksa spices for the creamy sauce. Besides the regular items on the menu, guests can look forward to the daily specials and the Sunday brunch menu.
So, our lunch started with one of the couple of All-Time Favourites item: the Smoked Duck Skewer served with salad and house wasabi dressing. The smoked duck skewer was surprisingly odourless (I was expecting some kind of gamey odour that normally comes with duck meat). The thick fatty layer on the meat makes it succulent.

Earlier, I mentioned about the Exotic Seafood Laksa Pasta with home-style cream laksa paste, fresh prawn and scallop. This is an absolute must-have! The prawn is really fresh and the creamy laksa paste is just foodgasmic, I even added my rice to clean the plate after the spaghetti is finished, because it's that "can't-get-enough-of-it".

From the 'Today's Lunch Special', we had the Boneless Rendang Chicken served with brown rice and salad. Oh yes!! This is another must-have, I love the sauce, although it is not exactly like Indonesian version of rendang. This one tasted more modern and creamier, as you can see in the photo. Another reason to eat my rice, to savour the delicious spiced rendang gravy.

House Steak 150 days Grain Fed Australian Ribeye Steak with house red wine sauce. Another simple yet hits-the-tummy-in-the-right-spot kind of dish. The potato gratin itself is already a treat of its own, eat it plain or with the brown sauce, so delicious!

Fish patty drizzled in almond sauce served with chips and salad on the side. I love this one too, never had such a yummy fish patty and the skinny chips are just addictive, thin and crispy.
Exotic Ice Cream
The flavours listed are Sea salt caramel, earl grey, lemongrass, lavender honey or whiskey chocolate. I would've wanted to try each one of them if I wasn't already so full! But the Whiskey Chocolate ice cream is absolutely perfect end to my sumptuous meal. The ice cream is home made and they're not stingy with the whiskey.

Pictured below, is chef and owner Bill Ho (Why is it that a lot of guys can cook so well?), a Malaysian and he is a truly humble guy who can cook magic in the kitchen. Thank you for cooking such incredible food, please don't ever get tired of cooking, because I (and my brother) will always come back whenever we're in Singapore :)
I absolutely highly recommend Eight Cafe & Bar not just for the reasonable price, but for such delicious home cooked food they are absolutely worth every cent.
