Yee Shang Festival @Collage, Pullman Jakarta Central Park

Having spent a few years living in Singapore, Yee Shang-tossing tradition is not unfamiliar to me. It is actually a Chinese New Year tradition practised widely in Singapore and Malaysia. This year, several upscale Hotels in Jakarta are trying to introduce it to Indonesians. For you who do not celebrate Chinese New Year, not to worry, for this Yee shang dish is simply a custom and has nothing to do with religion or race.
Tossing the yee shang
A few days ago, Pullman Jakarta Central Park invited media & bloggers to try its Yee Shang Festival at the Collage All Day Dining reastaurant. You can try the Yee Shang platter for IDR 128,000++/platter (each platter is enough for 5 - 6 persons). And the following photos will guide you step by step on how to properly toss the Yee Shang, lo hey! =)

Sauces &spices platter
Each platter of Yee Shang contains:
  • 1 plate of pickled vegetables, different colour means different veggie (white is radish, orange is carrot, cream is pomelo bits, green is melon, maroon is dyed cucumber, yellow is peach)
  • 1 plate of salmon sashimi & abalone
  • 1 platter of sauces, herbs & crackers
1. Place Yee Shang in the middle of the table
2. Squeeze lime on top of the salmon & abalone
3. Put the spices on top of the salmon & abalone, then put it on the Yee Shang
4. Pour the oil
5. Put the plum sauce
6. Put the crackers
7. Stir the Yee Shang as high as possible (the higher it gets, the higher your luck will be!)
The crackers in the Yee Shang have always been the thing I most look forward to, so Ka Selba who shared the platter with me could have the salmon & abalone, while I was busy searching for em crackers...teehee!
